ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to examine parental involvement on students academic activities in selected secondary schools in Ikeja local government area in Lagos state. Specifically, the study examined extent to which the parents are involved in academic activities of students in secondary schools in Ikeja LGA, factors affecting Parental involvement on students’ academic activities in secondary schools in Ikeja LGA, role of parent in students’ academic activities in secondary schools in Ikeja LGA, prospect of Parental involvement on students’ academic activities in secondary schools in Ikeja LGA, investigate if Parental involvement on students’ academic activities influences the academic performance of students in secondary schools in Ikeja LGA. The study employed the survey descriptive research design. A total of 75 responses were validated from the survey. From the responses obtained and analysed, the findings revealed that extent to which the parents are involved in academic activities of students in secondary schools in Ikeja LGA is high, that there are factors affecting Parental involvement on students’ academic activities in secondary schools in Ikeja LGA, the role of parent in students’ academic activities in secondary schools in Ikeja LGA is not limited, the prospect of Parental involvement on students’ academic activities in secondary schools in Ikeja LGA is high, Parental involvement on students’ academic activities influences the academic performance of students in secondary schools in Ikeja LGA. The study recommend, that parents should be aware and fully participate in the academic activities organized by their children respective schools, Parents should not shy away from their responsibility ,as they should provide educational materials that will make their children excel in their academic activities, Parent should know the day to day activities in their children respective schools as this will aid their academic performance.
